2018-06-27

Some people prefer personal exercise such as running and cycling while others prefer group exercises. Which one do you prefer?

Without doubt that exercising is important for people to maintain a healthy lifestyle. Although some individuals prone to participating in group exercising activities such as basketball, I prefer personal exercises such as running and cycling as it is more efficient in general.

To begin with, participating in group activities will lead to a certain degree of socializing, and the overall exercising efficiency will decrease as a result. For instance, when people gather together to play sports like basketball, it is natural for them to chat with one and another when they are on a water break while taking it longer than they would need. Socializing is not necessarily a bad thing for human development, but within the context of efficacy, people can be better focused on the exercising activity itself if without the presence of other peers. Therefore, personal exercises are generally more efficient in comparison to group exercises.

Furthermore, organizingpersonal exercising activities are more flexible. In most cases, people can choose their own time for exercising in order to avoid collisions with other events. This will not be the case if there are two or more individuals involved because people have different timetables. Under such circumstances, a fixed schedule for exercising will be a luxury, and it will often take extra time and effort to work things out if group exercise is absolutely necessary.

Lastly, people focus less on their own self when exercising with others. This point manifestitself when multiple people are going on a hiking trip, and the fastest one are expected to slow down to wait for the slower ones. This is because people are expected to look after one and another rather than focusing merely on themselves. However, if the person goes hiking alone, he can adjust the speed according to his own pace without further moral considerations. This way, he is able to maximize his effort in this exercising activity.

Overall, group exercises are good for socializing. However, when discussing its merits, I would prefer personal exercising because I can be more efficient, more flexible, and more focused on myself. People nowadays are spending more and more time working and studying, thus it is even more important to recognize the importance of doing exercises.
